"I dunno. I mean Hemmy is QUITE the pimp. All the girly dog's want his bod. I'm not sure if the humans wanting Joey's bod means he's more of a pimp or not though." He smiled slightly at the second thing she said. "No worries. I do both anyway. I play drums a little bit and I like playing basketball but I really really suck." He did suck at basketball, like bad. The only reason he ever got on teams when he was little was because the teams had policies letting anyone on that wanted to join. He never played other than practices, and he barely ever made baskets. He even had a hard time dribbling. That was just pathetic, what kind of basketball player couldn't dribble? He doubted he could get on the team if Shallow High had one, but he hoped he could at least join for practices. Holden couldn't help wondering why he was doomed to love a sport that he sucked so badly at.

"Oh drums are cool, I've allways wanted to play them but I'm absolutley terrible at the drums I mean I can play half decently when I have someone helping me but... Yeah, I just suck in general at drums... I really envy Meg White, she's pretty awesome" she said with a tiny nod. She listened to his lament about baketball, another sport she hever got involved with, just because she couldn't dribble without tripping over her own feet. "You're probably better than you give yourself credit for, are you gonna join the school team?" she asked him. She'd probably join the cross country team. She just loved running, she'd run anywhere from a mile to ten in a day. She was addicted to the endorphins, possibly the only natural drug that couldn't harm her that she'd ever get.

"Yeah I guess I'm okay at drumming. I mean I can't do much fancy stuff but I can keep a basic beat going."Holden smiled, shaking his head. If only she knew just how bad at basketball he was, she wouldn't have tried to say that he would get on the team. He literally couldn't dribble. Well, he could dribble but he couldn't dribble and look up at the same time, so he couldn't look where he was going and he always ended up running into people and objects. Not the best way to go about playing a game of basketball. "Well I'm probably gonna try out yeah. You should come, then you'll see first hand how horrible I am."

Peyton laughed, "You know what? I will come" she started, looking him in the eye "and you'll do amazingly, and I'll be able to say 'Told ya so!'" she laughed, slowing down her swinging, almost to a stop. "And you know what else? You're probably amazing at drums too but you're just being modest..." She tried to stifle her smile, half because whenever she said Modest it made her think about Modest Mouse. "I play guitar, and bass, and keyboard... And that's it" she said with a tiny shrug. She looked up at him.

"Well you're gonna eat those words when you see me play." Holden argued. When she slowed, he realized that he hadn't even started swinging again since the last time he stopped. Pumping with his legs, he started up again, but not very fast or high. "And I'll be the one telling YOU that I told ya so." He stuck his tongue out at her then continued. "Guitar bass and keyboard? I wish I could play guitar. Bass I can sort of handle but I'm hopeless at the guitar. Believe me, I tried. One of my old friends tried to teach me and he failed miserably. He said I was better at his bass than I was at his guitar but I honestly think he was just trying to be nice." Holden wasn't much for any musical instrument that didn't involve banging two sticks on something. It just wasn't something he was good at.

She smiled, "Ok, if you say so" Peyton shrugged, now looking down at her once bright red converse. "I really got into it beause of my dad..." she started, "It was really ironic because he was in the Army and Bob Dylan was the one who inspired him to start with guitar and stuff, and when I was three he was playing it and i sat in his lap and he taught me a song." She looked up again, trying not to seem upset. "But yeah I started piano after that because of this one Elvis Costello song, and I started bass because, well I think it's a pretty sexy instrument" she laughed slightly; looking back down at her shoes, kicking a few wood chips away. She looked up at the boy again, forcing a small smile.

Holden watched Peyton as she spoke about her father and how she got into her different musical instruments. Up till now he had pretty much decided that she was of a basically happy nature, but at the mention of her father, he noticed the cheery expression drop from her face. She had the look of someone who was sad but plainly trying to hide that sadness. One thing Holden prided himself in was that he was good at reading emotions. Right now, even with the smile on her face, the emotions Peyton was giving off were not happy ones. He suspected perhaps something had happened between her and her father. Perhaps he had been cruel to her. She spoke of him with affection though, so he figured it more likely that her father had died. Still, he felt that he shouldn't prod. She could offer whatever information she wanted, and he wasn't going to push for more. "Well that's neato." He said smiling pleasantly. "And yep, bass IS a pretty damn sexy instrument."

She laughed at his word choice, "Yeah, neato... Sorry" she said with another tiny laugh. She looked quickly over to Joey, stifling another small giggle, then back to Holden. "So now to change the subject what else are you into?" she asked him, pushing her swing around in circles with her legs then tucking them under so she spun the other way. She almost lost balance, but righted herself, cracking a smile.

Holden watched her spin, momentarily distracted from her question. It was somewhat hard to answer a question when the person who asked it is spinning around in circles on a swing. Or maybe it was just difficult for him. Who knew? "Um... oh what else am I into? Uh... well I'm pretty into photography." He was really not giving photography the credit it was due by saying he was pretty into it. That would be like saying he thought breathing was just okay. Normally he wouldn't go anywhere without the lens pretty much glued to his face. Unfortunately his 35 MM was currently broken and he was now planning to get a job in order to pay for a new one. The one he wanted was pretty pricey so he knew it might take a while, but he was trying to be patient.

Peyton caught her balance on the swing again, then turned to him, listening. She always thought Photography was cool she tried a few times with a camera but never really got any good pictures. "Well that's cool," she started, swaying in the swing. She glanced down then back up. "So I have no idea about photography, so I dunno what else to ask about it," she admitted with a tiny laugh. She pushed her bangs out of her green eyes.

"Yeah well that's okay. There isn't a lot you can say about photography to someone that isn't into it without boring them." He knew this as well as anyone. Holden had been known to bore people like mad on occasion. When he got started about lighting and the pros and cons of color versus black and white or 35 mm versus digital he could literally go on for hours. It wasn't generally fun for the person he subjected to it. He decided simply telling her his favorite subject matter would suffice. "I like taking concert photos and portraits. Plus animals and nature, but to a lesser extent."

She nodded as she listened to him, "Concert pictures are allways the best," she said. She did know one thing about photos, however. "I've allways liked those really indie pictures in black and white. Black and white pictures allways just had more emotion to me, you know?" she said. A cool breeze flew over the aream, she pulled her hoodie closer to her body. "Yeah, I definatley thought Boston was cold, but its still summer and I'm freezing," she said sort of in shock about the declining temperature this early.

"I know what you mean. There's times color can be more fitting for a situation, like when the whole appeal of the scene you're capturing is the color. Like, a field with an extremely blue sky. Or the colors of leaves changing. But for the most part I definitely prefer black and white to color." Black and white certainly added drama to a scene. Especially if there was very strong contrast. He loved pictures with only a slight bit of gray and an extreme amount of dark black and bright white. Some hated it but he loved it. "I'm pretty used to the cold. I mean, I've lived in places where it gets colder even earlier, but I've also lived places where it never gets this cold." He shrugged. "But I like this weather. Cold enough to wear a hoodie but not cold enough to freeze in."

She pulled the hood on her hoodie up again, the wind just blew it off again. She made a slight pouting face at hi then laughed again. She gave up on trying to keep the wind from blowing her blonde hair all round. "Yeah, I just moved here from Miami, so this is just a tad bit different" she said, "well maybe more than just a tad bit" she said grabbing onto the chains of the swing again. She had just realized her hands had been in her pockets since she mentioned her father. She cracked another tiny giggle, "I think it's kinda funny, the fact that we're talking about the weather. I dunno but conversations about weather always made me laugh... Like puns!"

"Yeah. Weather is quite possibly the most cliche topic of conversation in existence." Holden agreed. It was true. What do people always talk about when they have nothing else to talk about? The weather. It was like the universal piece of smalltalk. Plus, all this talk about weather was reminding him of something. "Hey, have you ever seen Rock and Roll High School? It's like the kid in it who's always talking about how dry the weather is and how it's raining cats and dogs in Idaho." He gave a slight giggle. That was one of his favorite movies, and he loved quoting that particular scene. It was always a fun thing to say in an awkward silence and the likes.
