Name: Sid Sylvain
Age/Grade: 16/Sophomore
Character PB: Billie Joe Armstrong
Neighborhood/Dorm: Dorm
Extra Curricular Activities: Sid has a pretty obsessive personality, and always has something that basically rules his life. At four his life was trains. At seven it was animals. Currently, it's music. When he isn't playing guitar, he's listening to music or going to concerts. He goes nowhere without his headphones and portable CD player. Don't have at least some things in common with him music wise? You stand pretty much no chance of being his friend.
Personality: Sid is usually a very open minded person. He could care less what religion you have, or what your political views are. He doesn't care what a person looks like, none of that much matters to him. He is though, extremely superficial in terms of music. One of the first questions out of his mouth upon meeting someone is what music they like. If the answer doesn't meet his rather high standards, he'll drop the person like a rock. It doesn't matter to him if he just passed off the chance at making a great friend. They aren't worth his time if they don't like his sort of music.
He also has a temper, and once angry about something, he can hold a grudge forever. Not exactly the best person to get on the bad side of. Sid's the sort of guy that would gladly sneak into your room in the night and take a pair of scissors to your clothes if you pissed him off. Possible consequences are never anything that even crosses his mind before he does things like that. All he thinks about is doing them.
Despite his downsides, Sid isn't all that bad. If you manage to get past his rather brutal musical tests and befriend him, you'll have a friend for life, almost assured. He is incredibly loyal, and will not lose a friend without at least fighting to keep them. He's also a sappy romantic. Though on the surface he may not seem like it, he's the kind of person that believes in that one true love of your life.
History:
Sid was born and raised in San Francisco, California, but moved at about ten to Sunnyside Creek. This move was prompted by the fact that Sid's father was offered a high up place in a newly started company there. He decided to take a risk, quit his job, and moved his family, including Sid's mother, Sid and his three siblings, up to Canada. The risk ended up being worth his while. The company, which involved marketing a new technique for food preservation, was a smash success, as the technique was taken up across Canada, the US, and even overseas in places such as England. Although this meant a lot more money coming in, it also meant that Sid's father was away for longer and longer periods. Eventually, he had to spend six months in England, and when he returned, he and Sid's mother had a long talk. The end result was the conclusion that the two were now just too different, and it was decided that divorce was the only option.
Their divorce was finalized by the time Sid was thirteen, and his mother was given full custody of the kids. Although his father had agreed to fully provide for the family, making sure they would live a very comfortable life, he also made it quite clear that he no longer wanted anything to remain in contact. This hit Sid as a hard blow. Out of all his brothers and sisters, he had always been the one that most wanted a close relationship with his father, and was therefore the one hit hardest with the knowledge that his dear old dad wanted nothing to do with him.
During this difficult time, Sid discovered music. It all started with the old LP of London Calling a friend found in his attic. The pair put the record on the player in his friends living room, and Sid found his life immediately changed. He loved every lick, every bass riff, every note. He immediately went to the nearest record shop and bought everything he could find by the Clash. Over time, he discovered other bands from their time, such as the Ramones and the Sex Pistols, and older things like Iggy and the Stooges, or the New York Dolls (He was overjoyed when he realized he shared a last name with guitarist Sylvain Sylvain). He fell in love with music, and soon convinced his mother that he needed a guitar. For Christmas he received an imitation Fender, and despite the fact that it was from an unheard of brand, and not exactly the best quality, it soon became Sid's most treasured possession. He taught himself to play, and play well. Soon enough he could play along to almost every album he owned, and was writing a bit of his own material.
Although most of what music did to his life was good, it did have some downsides. Sid's friends didn't really see all that he saw in it, and a rift grew between them. In fact, by the time he was sixteen, it was almost as if his only friend in the world was his music. Not knowing what else to do, his mother took him out of the school he was currently attending, and decided to send him to board at Shallow High, in the hopes that he would make some new friends in a new setting.
