Rori Sinclaire had never really enjoyed her weekly ‘check-ups’ with the student councellor. Why? Because, he preached to her about how her life should be clean and can be easy, it was just all in her hands. She had this thing with counselors. She believed that unless they had experienced everything that a lot of teens went through these days, they really could relate like they said they could. They wanted to make sure the fact that she was sent here, to Sunnyside,, by her sister, cut off from the rest of her family besides the occasional phone call and weekly allowance, hadn’t left it’s mark on her, mentally. Uhm, how about, screw that? Whatever was going on in her head, bad or good, was her problem, and no one elses.
Not like she was mental or anything. The counselor just didn’t think that it was normal, the things that she did. Constantly drinking on weekends, never on weeknights because she wanted to actually get good grades and go to college so she could get out on her own, out of her sister’s shadow. Her sister. Gah. That was all she had to say about the gold-digger. She felt sorry for her husband, because he loved her so much, he was completely clueless to her flaws. Today was Wednesday, and she had just gotten out of the counsellor’s office, stopped by the bank to pick up the $350 allowance her sister left for her, for this week, and headed to the mall. Shopping was good. Most people wouldn’t peg her for a material girl, if they really knew her. However, she came off that way to the people around her, often. She didn’t exactly stop them form thinking that, though, so it was her own fault.
Rori pulled into the parking lot in her tiny Sentra, and parked close to the front doors. She had this thing, with hobos. Like, they were going to mug her on the way into the mall if she parked to far away. So, she parked close whenever possible. Anwyho, she walked into the mall, and looked around. For some reason, ice cream sounded amazingly good right at that moment, so she walked in the direction of the food court. When she got there, she frowned at the riciculously long line in front of the Cold Stone, but nevertheless, go into it. She’d wait. She loved Cold Stone, and whenever she got cravings, they didn’t go away very easily.

Ryan was a geek and he knew it. In fact, he enjoyed the fact that he was labeled as such. Not that he had ever particularly gotten labels or why people used them, but if he had to choose a label for himself, he'd choose geek. But, he wasn't what most would consider a stereotypical geek. In the sense that he didn't wear his pants too high, he didn't wear glasses and he certainly didn't talk in that annoying nasally voice so often portrayed by TV. But, he did enjoy video games and computers. He could fix any computer, you just had to ask him. And, World of Warcraft? He was a master. All of this happened in only a few short months, though. He had only 5 months previous moved into the only foster home he'd ever been happy in. And, happy was the only thing he'd been for the past months. He gained all the technology that was never provided to him the other places he lived, and he had taken to it almost immediately. He finally had enough money to buy things he wanted, not just things that he needed. Literally needed. Like clothes and food. Life was looking up more than it ever had.
So, as Ryan sat in the arcade in front of a game involving dragons, he couldn't' help but smile. Even when he lost, he couldn't seem to stop smiling. Just the fact that he was free to go to the arcade, and allowed to have enough money to play any of the games was enough to make a kid who never had much smile like a mad man. And, the smile wasn't just upon his lips, it was also in his oddly colored eyes. his new mother had told him that they were one of his best features, but he just found them odd. Gray, green, and blue. It was a confusing combination, and sometimes they were different colors. It depended on the day, r what he was wearing. At the moment, his yellow shirt, black and white striped zip hoodie and skinny jeans weren't really changing them much. Although, they were a bit grayer than they had been the day before. It didn't have anything to do with his mood, they just simply were.
As Ryan got to the last level, he looked around to see a boy around the age of 11 staring at him expectantly. Ryan chuckled and finished the game quickly, before getting up from the uncomfortable seat that belonged to the game. The little boy eagerly took his spot and Ryan shook his head with a smile still playing across his face. His mop of brown hair swayed slightly as he did so. He sighed after this and looked around the crowded arcade in the mall once more, before hearing his stomach growl. Ryan was quite hungry, and he knew exactly what he wanted. Something he pretty much always wanted. Cold Stone Ice Cream. Ryan waved to the owner of the arcade, before stepping out into the bright mall. He knew the exact location of Cold Stone from the arcade. In fact, he almost always went there after playing a few good games. So, Ryan's Converse made a quick padding noise as he traversed his way to the ice cream. The line was long, but he was willing to wait. So. he stepped in line behind a girl with brown hair and crossed his arms. The smile was still plastered to his face, and he didn't care how long the wait would be.

Stereotyping wasn’t something Rori exactly enjoyed. Really, it just annoyed her. But, she supposed she was a hypocrite, if she said she never stereotyped someone before, in her seemingly endless school life. Because, then she would be lying. She may be a bit of a hypocrite in some areas, but she wasn’t a lier. Most people would classify her as a bit of a loner, with just a few really good friends, that she would do anything for. That stereotype was fine with her, but he people she actually had contact with, it was different story. She was the stuck up bitch, that got in your face if you so much as stepped out of line. Only half of that was true. She’d get in your face if you make her mad, but she wasn’t stuck up. The farthest thing from, actually. She lived week to week on the allowance her sister sent her every Sunday, and the money she got from working. She didn’t spend much on the way of food, and mostly just bought little things, like CD’s, or clothes. Rori was a girl, after all. You could never have too many awesome shoes.
So there she was, spending that five dollars of two-hundred odd dollars for each week, buying some Dairy Queen. Whatever she had left over from the week, she put into the bank, so she could pay her own way into college, and not be in debt up to her ears for her sister. But, whatever. She sighed, looking around and brushing her brown hair out of her face, a bit frustratedly. Okay, first she was fine with the long line, and now she was a bit frustrated with the slow movement. She glanced over the shoulders of the people ahead of her. The manager person was helping the girl with each order, showing her how to do things. Great. She wants to get a nice quick ice cream after shopping, and some noob is running the cash register. Her bright green-blue eyes flickered with more frustration, and she crossed her arms, turning around, and bumping straight into a boy, maybe her age. What? When had someone come up behind her in line?
She stepped back, and bumped right into the person now behind her, who turned their head angrily to glare, then turned back around. Rori bashfully wiped her clean hands nervously on the front of her black skinnies, then adjusted her heather gray ‘Kiss’ t-shirt. She gave a tiny smile and said, “Heh. Sorry about that…” She ran a hand through her hair, flushed a bit. It wasn’t everyday she accidentally ran into people. Actually, that was rarely done, especially now she did ballet. Yeah, who would have thought. Rori Sinclaire and ballet? When pigs would fly. Well, apparently that day had come, but Rori couldn’t see any flying pigs each time she put on those tights and ballet shoes. She looked away for a second, then looked back at him, and said, forward, “Hey, there. Rori Sinclaire.”

Though Ryan was considered a geek, he had friends in almost every social clique. Everywhere you went, every person you talked to would tell you that they knew Ryan Beaumont. So, maybe not directly, but they'd heard about him or seen him. He wasn't' popular, he was simply nice. Ryan had never been a mean person. He'd gone through a lot of mean and awful people in his life, but has still come out somehow being this kind, almost innocent kid that would never ever try to hurt anyone. Whether it was the jocks, or the scene kids, or the artists, Ryan knew at least one person from every group, and none of them had a bad thing to say about him. And, you'd think this would make him supercilious to others, but it didn't, not all. In fact, he didn't really realize that he had that many friends. He was just... nice to people. And, though he'd say they were his friends, he only had two true friends. Neither even knew each other, oddly enough. Madi was his best, and Stevey was amazing. But, how could he not realize that people liked him.
Well, you see, Ryan is probably one of the least observant people in the world. In fact, he might take the prize. He can't help his obliviousness, he just gets off track. He forgot things and could easily get distracted. He didn't know why, but he did. Some people considered it a flaw, like himself, others found it funny. But, anyway, that was how he was. It wasn't going to change any time soon.
And, though Ryan was a normally nice person, he couldn't help but laugh a little bit at the antics of the girl in front of him. From the beginning, he could tell she was getting impatient with the line. He wasn't yet, and doubted he would for a while, but she could possibly need to be going somewhere. Though, why would she be waiting in a line, then? He really didn't know. But, then when she turned around and noticed him, her eyes got wide and she bumped into the person in front of her. The look they gave her was priceless, as was her own. He bit his lip to keep back that smile, as well as the laugh. He didn't think she noticed his struggle, but when she introduced herself, he quickly did the same to save himself. "Ryan," he said, turning his slightly mocking smile into a genuine one. "Ryan Beaumont."

Rori wasn’t really to the point of flaunting herself. She never had been, unless insanely drunk, but she was known, at times ,to get a bit full of herself… and, yeah. Maybe flaunt, just a little. But, it was never in a ‘look at me, I’m beautiful’ kind of way. It was in a more ‘look what I can be, and do’ kind of way… if that makes sense to anyone but me. ANYWAY, yeah she was a little full of herself, but wasn’t everyone, in there own way? I mean, that was how she looked at it. It wasn’t like she did it on purpose.. most of the time.
Rori studied the boy’s face for a moment, “Beaumont…” She was trying to place a face with a name. Sure, she only had a few really good friends but she had an acquaintance list as long as the Constitution, “Nope.. we’ve never met. “ She said with a nod, then hoping she didn’t confuse him, explained, “It’s just, I know basically everyone. It’s not every day that I meet a stranger.” She hoped that didn’t really sound conceited or anything. It was truth. Through her stunts, and just being herself, she knew a LOT of people, “but, it’s nice to meet you, Ryan.”

Ryan had never been one to make assumptions about people. In fact, he normally thought that everyone was a good person. Until, of course, they proved themselves otherwise. That happened a lot with people, but Ryan tried to keep himself optimistic, hoping that people would turn out alright in the end, even if things didn't look so hopeful at first. Thinking the best of people just made for a happier life. But, it also made for much easier let downs. But, Ryan also tried to respect people/ By giving respect, you earned respect. It was important to him, but only recently had it become so.
Ryan raised an eyebrow as he noticed her study his face. It seemed as though she was trying to see if she recognized him or not. He sure didn't recognize her, but he was still getting used to meeting people in the town. And, it was a pretty big town, so there were a lot of people he still had yet to meet. But, obviously that wasn't really the case with Rori, the girl he'd just met. He looked at her, a little taken aback. What she'd said had sounded quite supercilious. He couldn't tell if it was supposed to be or not. Going back to who he was, he wasn't going to take it in a bad way. He gave her a slightly uncertain smile and shrugged. "Well, I guess you have to meet new people every once and a while."

Because it was done to her, and other people around her, Rori tried her hardest never to make assumptions about people. But, well, she was only human, and mostly ended up doing it anyway. She often critical of people, even more so of herself, and that helped a lot with whether or not she did or didn’t criticize people. Rori wasn’t one that respected someone right off the bat. You had to earn her respect, and she wasn’t naïve enough to just respect anyone.
Rori smiled, brushing her hair from her face, and said, “Well, it just doesn’t happen very often to me.” This time she just brushed off the fact that she might have sounded a bit stuck up. She just figured he’d get the right idea. She’d been here for a while now, and had chances to make a lot of connections and acquaintances, even though it was a fairly large town. Rori sighed, and stepped forward in line, and said, “So, you go to Shallow, right?” There was only one other high school that she knew of, and since she hadn’t seen him around, figured he might just go there.
