If there was one thing in the world that the girl loved, it would have to be surprises. Well, maybe not. But, one would have to admit, they were pretty cool things. You see, the joy of seeing someone's face light up just because you went through all of the trouble to do something completely amazing for them and keeping it a secret so that they would be surprised, well, the feeling is just great! Because, with such simple actions, you can make someone really, really happy. And even if you aren't the best person in the world, and maybe the person didn't really do much to deserve a surprise, they love getting them! Maybe it's just because they're you best friend ever and they're always there for you that you think you sort of have to give something back. Who can really know? All the people in the world know is that it makes them feel good and it makes other people happy. And even if you aren't much of a people person, and aren't very happy yourself, it feels great just to make another person happy. And you feel much more useful.
Not saying that if you give someone a surprise they'll start using you to get more surprises. Like, inaniment objects and all that shit. But, you never know. You might make a better friend of the person and you can have a pretty good time doing whatever it is with them. You can't really tell right away. But, in the end, all that hard work that you go through to keep it a secret is completely worth it because, well, you can just feed off the happiness in the person's smile. And that should really be enough for many things to make you happy. Whatever they happen to be. Well, anyways, moving on. Wouldn't you be happy if someone surprised you, though? Before we leave this topic, even though I'll probably end up wandering back into it somehow because that's just the way that I am. But, well, you must admit, you know you love that about me!
So, for the sake of surprises, the girl hadn't told her best friend why he was supposed to meet her at Centre Mysteria. It was a great place for concerts, and luckily, she was able to snag two tickets. See, she'd told him they were going to see a show, well, yeah! Obviously she'd tell him that! But, she didn't tell him who they were going to see. That was the surprise part. All she'd said was that there was this awesome band and she wanted to see them and that he had to go with her because she'd already bought his ticket. And she may have thrown in that she'd push him down the hill in the park the next time they went and run away so he wouldn't be able to find her. And well, that wouldn't be all that nice of a thing to do. But, actually, she wasn't really that nice of a girl. It's a terrible thing to say, yeah. But, it must be said. Because not all people are perfect little angels now are they? Well, of course not! Because what fun would life be if we were all perfect and angelic and all that shit?
It took Madi about an hour to get ready to go to the concert. She'd put on a Hello Kitty tank top and a pair of black skinny jeans with a yellow studded belt on it. Then she'd put on a pair of black converse and yellow and black eye make-up and she was set to go. Well, she could easily pull off yellow and black. Because she looked good in anything and everything! That's not conceited at all, it's just the honest truth. Well, maybe it's a little bit conceited, but, moving on. Her hair was pretty much flat, which is the wonderful work of a flattening iron, and she had a, yes, you guessed it, yellow bow in it. Well, if we're going to colour coordinate, we may as well go all the way, right?! No, her socks were not yellow or black. They were pink. But, it wasn't like anyone was going to see them. So, yeah.
Madi walked out the door to her dorm, which she hated deeply, in fact, she wasn't planning on staying there that night. She'd probably end up going to the trailer park to see her sister. There wasn't anything wrong with that, so it didn't really matter. So, she ended up getting onto a bus and sitting there for a while. She'd told Ryan to meet her at Centre Mysteria at about seven o'clock. Which, wasn't in a very long time. Madi didn't mind having to take the bus places. She was fifteen, so there wasn't a very high chance of her actually being able to drive for a while, so she could wait. There was nothing wrong with waiting. In fact, if she wanted to, she could be quite patient. And there wasn't anything wrong with being impatient, but it was better to be patient. Because, if you weren't, waiting for buses could drive you up a wall!
Getting off the bus, Madi had to walk a little bit to be able to get to the building. It wasn't a long walk, really. About three minutes. And converse were comfotable enough to her so she was fine when it came to walking. Besides, if you can't handle walking for three minutes, you're just a lazy ass. Madi got to the building and leaned on the wall outside. Well, this was going to be excited. She really couldn't wait for Ryan to get there so she could show him what band was playing. Because, she knew that he loved them and hoped he would be happy that he was going to get to see them. Because, it had taken a lot of convincing to get her sister to give her some money to buy them. But, well, she was her sister. So, once she explained everything and why she simply needed to be able to get the tickets, she'd given her the money and Madi went to get the best tickets she could. Which wasn't hard, considering she was like, the first person in line. Wow, the things she'll go through to make her best friend a happy boy. But, hey, she'd scored general admission. And that was great!

Ryan was a geek. Very very much so. There were too many things to count that made him a geek, and he really didn't mind. It was doubtful you could find a much geekier at heart boy than him, but doubtful that you would ever try to look for one. I mean, no one really cares about the geeks, they definitely aren't the majority of the school's social scene. Or any school's social scene. They were more, behind the scenes. Except, they didn't do all that much to make the school run smoothly. The only difference with Ryan was that he knew he was a geek, but he had friends in all sorts of cliques. Whether it was the jocks, or the scene kids, or the artists, Ryan was a friend to a large part of them. Not a friend as in, say, share anything with. But, a friend in the sense that if they needed help, he'd be there. Unless of course, he was helping Madi first. Madi was his best friend, and he'd always think of her first. Way before anyone else. But, more on her later.
Though, Ryan really didn't like labels, and hadn't truly been introduced to them until this year, he wasn't afraid to admit that he was a geek. In fact, he liked being considered a geek. Video games, guitar hero, computer wiz, gnome loving boy he was. He was proud to be a geek, and proud that everyone else saw him as so. Even though he didn't have quite the stereotypical appearance held for most in his social classification. He didn't wear his jeans pulled high or button up shirts. He didn't even need glasses. All things seen in movies, and all things cliche. He never quite knew why they were pinned as looking that specific way, but it was true with every clique. They all had a specific thing that was supposed to be unique to their specific group. And, there were even some groups that really did dress just like they were portrayed in TV, but many others that weren't even close. It was an odd world, Ryan had to admit that.
So, enough about Ryan and his geekiness, and on to what he was doing that day. The day after Madi, the one previously mentioned, had informed him that they would meet outside Centre Mysteria. The best place for concerts. Ryan was more than excited, because no matter how much he wanted to, he kept himself from looking at the website or the sign posted outside the theater. Luckily, they didn't advertise bands around town, so Ryan still had no clue who they would be going to see. He knew Radiohead was around this area, but he was pretty sure that they were in New York that night, so it couldn't be them. Unless, he'd read their dates wrong two weeks ago. But, he couldn't be sure. Though, it was always a possibility. Unless, of course, they weren't even going to a show and Madi was just being her weird self, making him meet her outside the place, and then have nothing to do with it. He wouldn't doubt it. Madi was always a little bit of one for surprises. Ryan didn't love them, but he loved Madi, so it evened out. There were a lot of people who didn't like the girl, but Ryan really couldn't see how. She was truly his best friend, he'd do anything for her.
But wait, Ryan had remembered that that they were in fact going to see a show. Madi had also informed him of this. he couldn't help it but he had a slight problem with remembering and paying attention to things. It just wasn't part of his personality, or who he was. Oblivious to most things was how his days went. He wasn't stupid, just unaware. So, now Ryan was walking along this street, away from the bus stop toward the center of town and Centre Mysteria. His favorite pair of battered old black Converse padded against the sidewalk softly, the tops of them covered by the hem of his tight jeans. His new parents had been more than willing to buy him some new shoes, but he told them that he loved his own. They found this slightly odd, but left him to his shoes nonetheless. he loved his new parents. They were more than he ever could have asked for. He just wished that he never would have had to have been a foster kid. It was tough. He just desperately hoped that he wouldn't be moving again any time soon.
Ryan was also adorned in a plain black tshirt upon the top part of his slim body. His mop of brown hair swished back and forth as he looked up to see a brightly colored Madi, not far away. But, he couldn't resist the urge to look up at the flashing lights that announced the band. He bit his lip and looked up. The first word he saw... was RADIOHEAD. His eyes widened, but he didn't look at any of the other words. He just gaped as he walked even nearer to the girl that he was pretty sure was the best person in the whole world. He walked slightly wobbily, before standing directly in front of her. He looked down at the girl with his head slightly tilted. "Madi..." he began slowly. "Are we going to see Radiohead?" He asked this in an extremely calm manner, even if he was whirling with excitement inside.

When she saw the boy, a smile creeped over her lips. It wasn't like she had thought that he wasn't going to show up or anything. No. That wasn't the case at all. But, sometimes you just aren't completely excited about something until you see the person. And, well, Madi was excited, yes she was. Because, this was going to be a really fun night, that was for sure. But, just seeing Ryan actually getting to Centre Mysteria, that just made her even more excited because he was going to find out what the surprise was. Although, she didn't know if he'd already figuerd it out. You can't really be all that sure when it came to these types of things. Radiohead was huge, and there were a shit load of people there already, but, well, it's one of those times when you just have to wait and see what's going to happen. It was really exciting.
Madi scrunched up her nose when the boy spoke. He'd obviously looked up at the sign or something. Because, well, if he hadn't, there was no way of knowing that Radiohead was playing. "No Ryan," Madi said with a sigh. "We're going to go to the alley and sit there and get you drunk and then bring you to find a hooker." She shook her head gently, the smile reappearing on her face. "Yes, we're going to go see Radiohead," Madi stated. Aha. The wonderful world of sarcasm which leads to the truth. It's a wonderful thing, really. It is! At least, to Madi it was. In fact, it was pretty much how she got through life. Sarcasm was her best friend. Next to Ryan, of course! But, well, yeah. That would prety much sum up how sarcasm fit into Madi's life. It made things less, boring.
Of course, sometimes there is a difference. You see, there's sarcasm and then there's lying. Both of which had won a regular place in Madi's life. But, she would never be able to bring herself to lie to Ryan. From the first moment she met him, she saw something about him. And it wasn't that he was just completely gorgeous. No, not at all. He was amazing. Nice, fun to be with, sort of like this innocent little kid. But, that was what she liked about him. And he'd pretty much saved her from killing herself. Or, at least getting extremely hurt. Besides, if she didn't have Ryan, she wouldn't really have anyone to talk to. It seemed like most people in this place were her enemies and not her friends. That's probably why she spent most of her time with Ryan, anyways. Because, well, people didn't like her all that much. But, then again, she didn't like them all that much either. What goes around comes around. So, if you don't like her, why should she like you, right? Exactly!
Looking up at the boy, she gave him a slight smile. "Well?" Madi said with a little bit of a laugh. "Are you ready to go in?" She knew that they were his favorite band. And she was actually really excited to see how this concert would go. Because, they were an awesome band. Madi liked them. Obviously not as much as Ryan did, but she still liked them. And she had wanted to see them as well. So, if she hadn't wanted to see them, she would've just bought a ticket for Ryan and told him to go and see them. Not that anyone would want to go and see a concert by themselves anyways. But, you can't really tell your best friend, "oh, here's two tickets to see Radiohead, go find someone to go with you. Bye!" No, you can't just do that. It goes against all the rules of being a best friend!

Ryan hated broken promises. He hated people who broke them and he hated when he himself broke them. A promise was a promise no matter what, and if you broke that promise, you couldn't always be trusted. It would hard to have good friends if you always broke promises, because no one would ever know when they could trust you to do what you were going to do. And, how can you be a good friend if you were always breaking promises? It just didn't make sense. Especially not to Ryan. With all the promises that had been broken by others in his past, he really didn't like having to deal with them being broken again. And, luckily none had been done so yet in his time in his new home. Not only had no promises been broken to him, he himself had not broken any. And, he wasn't going to start that day. If he'd told Madi that he was going to show up, but didn't, he'd never have gotten to see Radiohead and Madi would be standing there all on her lonesome. And that would make Ryan a liar and a bad friend. That was the last thing he ever wanted to be to Madi.
OK, so Madi was a little bit sarcastic OK, more than a little bit, but that didn't matter. Ryan loved it. Her sarcastic humor was just another of the many things that made her one of his favorite people in the world. She could be rude to other people with it, but she'd never do that to Ryan. At least, not meaning to it. It was just who she was, and if she wasn't that way, Ryan wouldn't like her nearly as much as he did. In fact, he might not like her at all. Though, if she were the sweetest person on earth, he might like her then too. He wouldn't know this, because he only knew her one way, and he only liked her one way. But, he knew that he definitely liked Madi the way she was. And, even if other people, almost all of them, couldn't see Madi the way he did, well that was their loss. He knew that most people didn't like her, but he did. He put up with her. Simply because it was easy to do, and because he'd tolerated a lot in his life. He easily liked her. He really didn't find it hard to do at all. Madi was his best friend by far.
Her sarcastic remark about the hooker didn't quite process in his mind. He knew that they were going to see Radiohead before she'd even said it. Madi wouldn't just tell him to come there right in front of where Radiohead was playing to taunt him. No, not even Madi would do that. Especially since she knew just how much he loved them. He knew that she liked them as well, but not nearly as much as he. Obsession didn't quite cover it. Almost, but not quite. So, due to the fact that Ryan was so very excited to see his favorite band in the entire world, he was at a loss for words. He stood there, staring at Madi with wide eyes, shaking a little bit. He took a few deep breaths before letting the realization hit him. "MADI!!!!!!!!" he said at the top of his lungs and picked her up around the middle. She wasn't big, and he wasn't completely weak, so it wasn't that hard. He swung her around once before setting her back down. "I love you!" he shouted, even though she was two feet from him. "Let's go, let's go!" he said, now jumping up and down. She'd already asked him if he wanted to, but he felt like vocalizing it his way. He had never been so excited in his life.
